BrighterBalance Earns 1EdTech Data Privacy Certification
Duluth, GA — September 9, 2026 — BrighterBalance has earned 1EdTech Consortium's certification for Data Privacy, following a review of its student privacy policy, data security practices, and other safeguards protecting student behavior data.
The Data Privacy Certification indicates that an application satisfactorily meets the expectations of 1EdTech's TrustEd Apps vetting rubric. Results are published in the TrustEd Apps Management Suite and are part of 1EdTech's TrustEd Apps Program. The rubric examines what data an application collects, its front-end security policies and practices, how it shares data with third parties, and its use of advertising. It was developed collaboratively by the 1EdTech community, including leaders from K-12 districts, higher education, government agencies, and edtech suppliers.
The certification carries added weight for a platform built around behavior documentation. BrighterBalance holds the observation notes, ABC records, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention data that support IEP meetings, BIP decisions, and FBA processes. That is among the most sensitive information a district keeps.
"Districts should not have to take our word for it. Every vendor says their platform is secure, so that claim does not tell a district much on its own. This certification means someone independent checked our answers instead of our marketing, and for a product built to hold sensitive behavior data, that outside check is worth more than anything we could say about ourselves."
— Jerry Henley, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, BrighterBalance
Privacy certification sits alongside the interoperability work BrighterBalance has done to reduce the setup burden on district IT teams. The platform is OneRoster certified, so class lists stay current without manual uploads. It is a ClassLink Certified Partner, supporting single sign-on and automated rostering through LaunchPad and Roster Server. BrighterBalance is also a member of 1EdTech and of the Access 4 Learning Community, home of the Student Data Privacy Consortium.
As a member of the 1EdTech Consortium, BrighterBalance works with educators and other suppliers to build standards and practices that benefit districts and the students they serve.
